I'll summarize what's going on from left to right: 0. (Not shown) Small, quick, abstract thumbnails to jog my imagination. 1. Quick, loose, light sketch of my creature 2. Defining the sketch with a thicker, darker line. 3. Establishing values on Photoshop's multiply layer with soft brushes. 4. Painting on top the last layer, blocking in more values. 5. Beginning to detail the face (always my favorite part). Here I use more opaque detailed brushes. 6. More detailing of the face 7. Detailing the mouth 8. Moving on to the horns (those were also fun to do). 9. Finishing up the horns around the head and moving on to detailing the body. Notice that not all the details on the body are painted, instead I use the brush's texture to suggest a scaled body. 10. Detailing the rock and arm. It's often suggested to move around the whole painting so you don't over work an area (after you do the preliminary work), but I like to see one area finished before I move on to the next. It's just preference. 11. Blurring the foreground to add depth to the painting 12. Final details, signature, and done!
Anyways, it's a lot of text so I figured I would put it in the description box rather than cover the images with text.
I hope you all enjoy and if you have any further questions feel free to ask!
Excelent step by step, it actually gets me excited about drawing, so thank you, and I do have a question, it's not THAT important...but how long did it take you to achieve this level of realism?? ☺
